Wellness Respite

Respite is a safe alternative to an inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. As a peer-run initiative, Respite staff provide 24/7 peer to peer support in working through a behavioral health crisis. The Respite House provides a comfortable setting in which guests can establish positive coping skills and become empowered to establish healthy habits and routines.

Our Wellness Respite service is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by people who are trained and experienced in supporting others to transform a crisis into an opportunity for enhancing personal wellness. We aim to both inspire hope and assist guests in developing crisis self-management skills so that our guests can better manage the current and any future crisis situations. We focus on self-care in the areas of sleep and rest, relaxation, nutrition, physical activity, and management of co-occurring medical or substance use challenges.

Wellness Respite Program

The CSPNJ Wellness Program offersa clean, safe, supportive, tranquil, and non-judgmental environments in a residential community. Guests can be provided support at the house for a maximum of 10 days and offered follow up support for up to 30 days,

We offer intensive peer support and involvement in wellness activities on site and through follow up supportto help guests to restore balance, and plan for adjustments to their home, their associated valued roles, and their community activities.

Wellness Outreach

If there is a waiting list or if a guest chooses to remain in the community to adjust to the crisis while remaining at home, we can provide continued phone contact and outreach for up to 1 month (face to face or phone contact).

Wellness Respite Goals

Crisis often leads to disruptions in balance and self-care. To restore capability and balance, we:
  • Provide intensive short-term support for individuals in the community through an alternative environment to inpatient hospitalization
  • Empower a person in crisis to re-establish healthy habits and routines
  • Enhance coping skills to manage crisis or distress in order to resume valued roles
  • Strengthen wellness self-care so that the guest can be successful in managing the immediate crisis and resume valued life roles and responsibilities
  • Assist guests to become or remain linked with their healthcare providers, jobs, schools, and communities.

Wellness Respite Services

The program recognizes that crises are short-term and involve a time when a person may need assistance in managing the distress that can interfere with personal wellness.

We see wellness not as the absence of disease or distress, but as the presence of purpose in life, active involvement in satisfying work and play, joyful relationships, a healthy body and living environment, and the presence of happiness.

We provide guests with support and the tools needed to pursue recovery and wellness. We aim to both inspire hope and assist guests in developing crisis self-management skills, so our guests can manage the current and future crisis situations. We focus on self-care in the areas of sleep and rest, relaxation, nutrition, physical activity, and management of co-occurring medical or substance use issues.
