If you or someone you know is experiencing mental health, substance use, or suicidal crisis, please call 988 and request MCORT services.

Mobile Crisis Outreach Response Teams (MCORT) will respond to non-life-threatening mental health, substance use or suicidal crises in the community. Referrals to MCORT may be made by calling 988. The program is designed to provide services statewide, 24 hours a day every day of the year.

MCORT provides 24/7 mobile community outreach services to adults in crisis, including mental health, substance use, and suicidal emergencies.

MCORTs include a two-person team (a peer support specialist and a bachelor’s level mental health professional), with a master’s level professional providing clinical backup from a remote location. MCORT staff will help to de-escalate a crisis and provide emotional support to individuals in the community, then make referrals to appropriate community services. MCORT will be dispatched without law enforcement whenever it is deemed safe to do so.

CSPNJ offers MCORT services in Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex, and Union counties.

What are the goals of MCORT services?

  • To de-escalate situations and support individuals experiencing a mental health, substance use, or suicidal crisis using a peer approach.
  • To offer peer support during every dispatch to promote respect, dignity, a non-judgmental approach, and prevent coercion.
  • To limit the use of law enforcement.
  • To operate separately and independently from Designated Screening Services (PESS – Psychiatric Emergency Screening Services, Arrive Together, or ER department) and from other existing crisis response services in New Jersey.
